More additions to the zoo

I did a lot of fiddly finishing tonite and the new additions to the zo are two brown mice who have tiny beady eyes and tiny ears. The two lady bugs sit nicely on their own knitted leaf. There's even a dove that flew in.
Here's the lioness. She came out really nice. She's waiting for her mate who's having a little trouble getting his face right.

The lion sleeps tonite

Worked on my lioness today. As you can see she has her head and legs attached. If you look closely you can see her back legs are bendable. The pattern called for the bendy section of a straw but of course all I had were straight ones. I cut the straw into two sections and then connected with with a pipe clean the same size inserted into the straw. That way the back paw bends. Cool.
Another pile of body parts. At the top are two tiny mice. The white blog will become a dove. The red and black are going to be two lady bugs that reside on the knitted leaf. Too fun.

In other news as I pulled into the driveway tonite at 9 pm I saw a huge racoon in the front yard investigating the trash cans out by the curb. As I pulled in it ran over to the tree in front of the house and made to run up it. As I got out of the car I could see it just above the ground holding on to the tree looking like a huge lump. I called out goodnite to it and I could see its eyes glowing in the dark. Wildlife abounds when you least expect it.

It's a turtle

Finished the turtle tonite. He is really cute. His neck is posable so he could look at you, but he's quite slow.
Started some assembly on the lion tonite also. Here is the male lion with his mane attached. I looks much better in person.

Finished Reptile

Finished sewing together my 13 inch long reptile today. I picked colors that I liked but am not sure of the variety. He's stuffed very gently along with a long pipe cleaner so he's posable. Quite the kind of snake I like.

Snakes

Worked on knitting a snake tonite and have one knitted up ready for assembly. I like the shaping and it is quite longer than I expected. Also finished knitting all of the turtles legs and its head. I think tomorrow nite some of these creatures will have to come to life.

Adding to the zoo

Finished the camel assembly and he/she came out quite cute. You can't see but she has seed bead eyes. Also knit all of the lion body parts and have started knitting a turtle. Each one is unique but so fun.

Little lions

Worked on knitting lion body parts today. I have one main body and am starting on the head. I will have to knit two because they both look so different. Also finished the camels final leg so assembly can commence.

Body parts

Did a bit of knitting today and am almost done knitting all of the body parts for one camel. I have one leg left to knit.

I brought my pirate pal, panda, zebra and croc into work today for my show & tell shelf. They were all big hits but the favorite was the pirate. In his stand he is stunning. A lot of work but so worth it.

Finishing things up

Did a lot of finishing things up today. Here is a picture of all of Bobble the sheeps body parts prior to asssembly.
Together they make quite an attractive sheep. I loves making the custom two toned pom-pom for the hat.
Here is Shirley the sheep with her long scarf and very short legs. I like her drowsy eyes. Now the herd of sheep is complete. I just love them all.
I finished the goose for the farmyard. As you can see it's very tiny.
Found this all in pieces in a bag. Do you recognize the body from the book "Knitted Icons"? I added pipe cleaners in the limbs making the body more posable. Now I just have to decide what to form it into. Right now it kind of reminds me of a blank body ready to be cloned from a sci-fi movie.
I stocked up my knitting bag with the pattern and yarn to either knit a camel or lion. Happy Crafting.

Meet the Pirate

I finished my pirate today. He is really tall but so handsome. He's wired into a doll stand because he has no bones. I love his parrot and hat. All he need is a cutlas to go out to sea.
Here he is from the side. I've learned a lot from him and he'll be fun to put on display.
I finished a Barbie sweater today that was in the "please finish me" pile. It's soft and pink, just what any skiing Barbie needs.
Also finished this 5 inch "button pincushion" today. This will go into the "Church Fair" drawer. I have 3 pincushions already, but it came out quite nicely.

All of Shirley the Sheep parts are knitted so it's on to her assembly tomorrow, or should Bobble the sheep go first since he was knitted first. What a quandry. I also found a knitted goose already to assemble too. You'll find out tomorrow along with me which gets done.

More sheeps progress

Worked on knitting parts for the final sheep in the herd. This is what Shirley will look like and what she looks like at the current time. She's really big and there is a lot of knitting just in her body. She's only one third of the way there.
Here is what Bobble looks like when finished. Right now all of his parts are finished and look like a tangle of yarn in a bag. It's amazing how they go together.

Adding to the zoo

Finished the zebra and he is so cute. He's got a furry mane and a fluffy tail. He is still a little unsteady on his feet because he's a little front heavy.
Here is Shaun and little baby Timmy. Timmy has a pacifier or in England (dummy) in his mouth.
Here is Timmys mom. She's quite rotund but I love her curlers on top of her head. The sheep herd is growing. I've knitted the legs and ears for Bobby and have started on his body. Shirly comes next and the sheep family will be complete.

Introducing Shaun the Sheep

Finished Shaun the Sheep today. He stands 5.5 inches tall and he's knitting a fairisle cardigan in a pretty pattern. He's got a long way to knit.
I used black cotten chenille stems in his legs and arms so he is posable. His handcrafted knitting needles are 2.75 inches long with glass beads on the ends. I wouldn't mind knitting with those.
This big sheep is Timmy's mom. She's waiting for her posable legs to be knitted and attached, some curlers for her hairdo and some eyes. She looks better in person but with out legs she keeps tipping over. She's waiting for her son Timmy to be assembled but as of yet he's still in pieces in a plastic bag.

This set designed by Alan Dart is just too cute for words. They are so much fun to knit and when they are finished it's like the creatures from the tv shows have come to life right in your hands. I'm having fun with this set.

No, I haven't finished with the zoo animals. I should be finished with the zebra tomorrow. He's only got three legs attached so he tips over also. He whispered that could he have his picture taken tomorrow when fully assembled.

More Sheep

Working on adding to my zoo/farm and this all of the parts for Shaun the Sheep. A lot of assembly is required but even Shaun isn't finished with his knitting. I've got a bag of parts for Timmy the sheep and his mother too.

Knitting a zoo

Worked on assembly today and finished a little tiny panda.
Next was the tiny alligator or crocodile. Could be either.
Here is the zebra body and its tiny striped legs. I ran out of straws that are used to stiffen the legs so I had to stop production and read a book instead. I think a camel or lion is next up for my tiny zoo.

What is it

Finished knitting all of the panda parts but they just look like black and white tangles of yarn. Lots of assembly there. Tonite I knitted the main body of what will be a zebra. If you knit the same pattern all in one color than it's a horse, but this will be a zebra.

Knitting a little

These little knitted blobs are going to turn into feet for an alligator.
Here is what a panda looks like when he's in the infancy knitting stage.

Some assembly required

Worked on framing Johnny Depp in his pirate guise today. He came out quite handsome and will go well with David Tenant
Here is the first animal for my zoo. It's an elephant that about 4.5 inches tall.
Here he is showing off his side view. He's soft but his trunk and tusks are pose-able as they have pipe cleaners (chenille stems) inside them. He makes you want to just side and play with him. They do take a bit of time to assemble because each piece is sewn separately and then added to the whole. Being careful in the sewing makes them come out so nice looking.

Here is the next knitted set of blobs. The top is knit in moss stitch to give it texture. The underside is just plain garter stitch for skin like look. He/She will look really cool. When you finish up one animal, the others call out and say "Knit me next, please" and of course I'm listening to them.

It's a blob

Worked on lots of blobs today. This set will turn into a snowman. The elephant has all it's parts knit but there is a lot of assembly in the future for these knitted pals. I spent a lot of time just putting all of my craft toys away today and getting organized for future craft adventures. Looking forward to tomorrow for assembly.

Back to knitting

Started knitting again today and this is what the end project will look like.
This is what they look now. They have a lot of pieces but the Sirdar yarn is so soft and wonderful to knit with they will be lots of fun.

Stitching a pirate

My favorite pirate Johnny Depp is finished. There was a lot a backstitching in his head wrap but it really makes a big difference. He needs a wash and a good press and he'll be ready for framing. He's going to be fun to display.

Pirate progresses

Did lots more stitching on my favorite pirate tonight. Almost done with all of the hair but still lots more work to do.

Sunday, January 6, 2008

Pirate in progress

Worked more on the pirate tonite after work. He's coming out quite nicely but there is a lot of stitching left to do.

Saturday, January 5, 2008

Pirates Progress

Worked on my pirate after work tonite while watching the movie 3:10 to Yuma. Good movie and lots of quality stitching done.

Friday, January 4, 2008

Doctor Who

Framed David Tennant - the current Doctor Who. He came out really stunning. I loved stitching him in all the shades of brown and seeing him evolve under my nimble needle. Will work on my other project - mystery pirate- tonite.

Thursday, January 3, 2008

Fun crafting

David Tennant is done. I've got a mat and a frame ready for him. All he needs now is a wash and press to get ready for the finishing.
I've started on my next project. It's one of my favorite movie stars. Lots of housework to do keeps me busy, but there are always all of those hours in the evening before midnite.

Dr Who

Yes, our mystery guest is non other than Doctor Who, David Tennant. I'm having loads of fun stitching him up. Still more to work on. I ran out of one of the colors of floss so it's back to the store for more tomorrow.
